Let customers speak for us
BOXIO
How BOXIO actually got started
It started with a fairly simple question: why is the toilet in the van almost always the most awkward thing about the whole vehicle? The answer became the first BOXIO composting toilet, built in Rostock in 2017, back when the company was still called Duschkraft GmbH. We tell that story properly on our Why BOXIO page.
That one toilet has since turned into something bigger than any single product: a system that keeps you self-sufficient on the road. And that's really the heart of everything we do at BOXIO, whether you're just starting out with your first camping trip in an estate car or you're already on your third full van conversion.
Our clever Eurobox-System
Composting toilet, washbasin, gas stove, cool box, they all share the same Eurobox format, and not just the boxes themselves. Brackets, tables and the rest of the accessories are built to the same dimensions too. Every single part has been tinkered with until it works simply, lasts, and skips the unnecessary extras. Better one less step than one too many.
The Eurobox size itself isn't a BOXIO invention, by the way. It's a stacking crate format used right across Europe. If you've already got a shelving or drawer system in your van built around Euroboxes, our products will generally just slot straight in, no adapters, no modifications needed.
Other brands make decent standalone composting toilets or washbasins, but nothing that ties them together. With us, the difference isn't the individual box, it's what you can build from it. The Eurobox itself is practical, holds up better than a lot of standalone gear, and is easier to clean, because it has smooth surfaces instead of corners and edges where grime gets stuck. Combined with fair pricing for what you get, that's the real difference from buying a single toilet or washbasin with no system behind it.
Because everything fits together, you can build your own set-up piece by piece. For some, the composting toilet is enough for a weekend away. Others add the washbasin later, then the gas stove and cool box for the kitchen, and once a full conversion is on the cards, the BOXIO RACK on top. You decide how far you take it. We make sure every part fits the next one.
Four products we've tinkered with down to the last detail
The composting toilet keeps solids and liquid from ever mixing in the first place. That's why it doesn't smell like a chemical toilet, and it doesn't need any chemicals either. Anyone who's spent a night at a remote pitch knows exactly what a difference that makes.
The mobile washbasin is just as straightforward: wash up, rinse, brush your teeth, wherever you are, with no fixed water connection needed anywhere. After a dusty stretch of driving, that's often the best moment of the whole day.
With the gas stove, one gas cartridge is all it takes. No cables, no leisure battery to run flat. Your first coffee in the morning with a view of the hills tastes different because of it.
And the passive cool box keeps things cold with no electricity at all. There's also a reusable ice pack for longer trips. At the end of a hot day, a cold drink is often the thing you're looking forward to most.
Turn any car into a campervan: Campingbox - BOXIO RACK
Once a full conversion is on the cards, that's where the BOXIO RACK comes in, a modular camping box that turns your everyday car into a self-sufficient campervan in no time, with no drilling and no workshop appointment.
Here's how it works, in short: the RACK BOX is the storage module for the boot and holds up to three Euroboxes, plenty of room for the kitchen, bathroom or your own gear. The RACK BED folds out on top in seconds, a flat surface that works as a bed or as a worktop for the kitchen. For the sleeping surface, RACK SLEEP folding mattresses come in several widths, so you can combine modules to fill out the car, and that works with folded-down or removed rear seats too. The height-adjustable RACK FOOT feet even out an uneven vehicle floor on top of that.
It all fits vans including the Sprinter, Ducato, Crafter, Transit, Vito, Caddy, Berlingo, Kangoo, Dokker and the VW T range, from an estate car through a small van to a full-size panel van. On the Van conversion page you can filter directly by vehicle and module and put your own set-up together, either as a ready-made bundle like the BOXIO RACK BOX + BED BUNDLE M or module by module.
Frequently asked questions about BOXIO
What is a composting toilet, exactly?
It separates urine and solids at the point of use instead of collecting both in one container. That's what keeps it low-odour and means it doesn't need any chemicals.
Do I need a workshop appointment for the BOXIO RACK?
No. The RACK BOX and RACK BED slot together rather than being bolted in, your car stays exactly as it was, and you fit and remove everything yourself.
Will BOXIO RACK fit my car?
In most cases, yes, from a Caddy right up to a large panel van. The exact fit depends on the module you choose, more detail on the Van conversion page.
Does BOXIO work with other brands' shelving systems too?
Generally, yes, as long as they're built around the same Europe-wide Eurobox size.
Do the products need electricity?
No. Everything runs mechanically or on gas. The only thing that occasionally needs a refill is the washbasin's water.
